Our customer developed an innovative capsule that is ingested to measure the mechanical activity of the digestive tract. It is non-invasive and comfortable for the patient who can resume normal life without any inconvenience after ingestion.

Project Challenge and Solutions

The device is based on a magnetic tracking system which allows local recording of the transit dynamics with a very good spatio-temporal resolution. Our customer contacted Valtronic to design and produce the device that had to fit into an intelligent pill measuring 22 mm x 8.5 mm (Ø). Valtronic moreover provided a pediatric version of the pill with smaller dimensions of 22 x 6 mm (Ø).

Valtronic provided a miniaturization solution and performed the manual assembling and testing. The complete process includes peek-encapsulation of the device.

About Diagnosis of Gastrointestinal Dysfunctions

Current diagnostics yield insufficient information for the physician to rapidly and in a cost effective way asses and treat the patient. The shortcomings are principally that the information is limited to short segments of the gastrointestinal tract and over a limited period of time, there is no information about the dynamics of the transit. In addition, the patient has to endure a most uncomfortable and invasive procedure. Smart pills offer unique ability to monitor regional transit time thus significantly improving speed of diagnosis and effectiveness of therapy.
